Wolk ex Machina

[Little Wolk is all growns up and has posted her first...er, post. Before I get back to the shed I'll secretly comment on her self-described inane ramblings. Then I really must go. No, seriously.]

Hi there.  I’m Little Wolk.  I can only assume I’ve earned this epithet by being a gargantuan five feet tall, but it’s catchy (and true) so I’m cool with it.  In fact, here is me looking both Little and Wolk-y.

CIMG1265

Before I jump right in to what can best be describe as inane rambling, I will briefly introduce myself:
-I am 28 years old and have lived in 6 different places in my life – Kingston MA, Evanston IL, Wrentham MA, London UK, Sydney Australia, and now Boston MA. [Wrentham does not count as a "place"]
-I enjoy running, hiking and playing catch, but I find breaking a sweat to be really inconvenient.
-I have never walked out of an Olive Garden and felt like I wasn’t about to die.
-My Dad’s beard can kick your Dad’s beard’s ass.
-I am tethered to my cell phone, lest I live 10 minutes without checking my social media accounts.
-I’ve had both a shaved head and waist-length hair.  Infer as you will; you’re probably right.
-I once said “Please hold my fanny pack” in Australia before I knew what the word “fanny” means over there.
-I like coffee but wish I loved tea.
-There is a 100% chance I will cry during any movie I see. [Including "Iron Eagle"?]
-I don’t know the lyrics to Thriller.
-I’ve had a patch of gray hair since I was 12.  Many people ask me if I dye it that way. No. I don’t.
-I’ve never seen a dead body. [But you lived in Wrentham...]
-I don’t mind eating cheese that’s been left out all day, but I’m quite averse to using public restrooms.
-I was spanked growing up. [Hmm]

Two important things I know about Micah Nathan – 1) No matter how much you think you’re going to get walloped in the face while holding a punching bag for him, he will repeatedly assure you that you’ll be okay and he will be right.  2) When he asked if I’d like to be a guest blogger, after I made sure he’s aware of my propensity to use parentheses, I enthusiastically accepted.
Apparently he has some writing?  Or something? [Finishing Resident Evil 4 in under 3 hours] that he has has to do. And so I’m here in the meantime.  What I hope to bring you are my sometimes-witty, often-sarcastic thoughts on pop culture.  I’ll prattle on about a movie I’ve seen and complain that it’s high time Sylvester Stallone just stopped already, or I’ll rave about the latest album I picked up and why the Scissor Sisters never disappoint, or I’ll find the newest internet meme and link to some dude sobbing about a “double rainbow all the way.” [My brief take: this man just lost someone very important to him, someone he used to go rainbow-hunting with, and now...catharsis, with the rainbow as cathexis] As long as there are shows like America’s Got Talent and Pants-Off Dance-Off, there’s a good chance I’ll be ranting about reality television. [God, no]

Of course, if you’re just reading my posts for the updates on what and how Micah is doing, I can be relied upon for that too.  (Currently sautéing onions.) In any case, thank you in advance for all the glorious praise you’ll bestow on me and all those wonderful care packages.  I love the chocolate chip cookies. [NYT recipe]

Go, go gadget copter! The Little Wolk is loose. Hooray!
Have to see this new movie, “The Kids are all right,” since I love both Bening and Moore… what thinkest thou on the subject? Spot on or too much navel gazing?

Hey Ellen! Thanks for reading!
I have heard nothing but rave reviews for The Kids Are All Right. And while I adore Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo, I have to wonder…does combining amazing actors, an original storyline, and great press necessarily equal a successful, likeable movie? I want to say yes, but I feel like I’ve been betrayed by this before. See The Illusionist, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Bucket List, Patch Adams, etc. That being said, there’s still a 100% chance I’ll see it. I’m a sucker for movies, what can I say?
