I am still in Buffalo, enjoying this San Diegonian weather, the triumphant Bills, and various exotic meats. Tonight we feasted upon bear bacon and sauteed kangaroo. It was…kingly. A bit excessive. A “checkmark” meal, as in: “Well, I’ve eaten that.”
So it looks like my first collection will be released in June, 2012, and said collection includes–drum machine roll, please–the long-awaited, much-discussed, and possibly-forgotten JACK THE BASTARD. It’s been six years, folks, since I first sent JTB to my then-agent Marly Rusoff. I was filming THE LAST JOB. I was 32. JTB was nearly 80k words.
Since that time, I chopped 40k words off the (bloated) manuscript and wrote a bunch of short stories during my MFA year. Most of those short stories are included in the collection. Named, aptly enough, JACK THE BASTARD AND OTHER STORIES.
Jud is finalizing the deal this week, so I’ll have some more info. as it trickles in. But I’m thrilled, folks.
(for those keeping track, several of the stories have already been released in various journals and might continue being released prior to the pub. date, but I promise some new material)
My very good friend Greg Halpern has a new photography book coming out.
Okay. I’ve been in Buffalo since Thursday and haven’t eaten a single slice of pizza. Bear? Yes. Pizza? No.
