I never really heard exactly what Mad Mel said except those awful rants at his girlfriend or ex-wife. I didn't get to hear his previous anti-Jews and blacks stuff. But you absolutely express my heavy disappointment in losing a "folk hero" or anti-hero that was so much fun to love. Good looking, irreverant, decent acting, aged well... until....... So, it is very hard to watch him now in anything. Oh well.... kind of like Tom Cruise too, although I recently watched The Last Samurai again and it is a good movie, probably more for the Japanese actors and story than for Tom. Hmmm... what actor can I lust after now?

"Grand." Now there's a word you don't hear often.

Not sure about future Buff-based fiction. As always, it depends on the story. The "Buffalo aesthetic" is a fertile backdrop for all sorts of minor and major tragedies--Shakespeare in Carhartt, one could call it, if one was so inclined--and good fiction loves tragic elements.
I love the BP! And I'm an expat as well. Left in '89 but still have family there. Will you be writing any more Buffalo-based fiction? Your latest was grand.

Interesting read, I personally love John Carpenter but he is not everybody's cup of tea. One thing you have got wrong is John Carpenter has heavily influence directors, one great director being Robert Rodriguez.

Awesome, awesome write-up. I admit that I have spent an inordinant amount of time pitting 80's cool guys against one another in my head. It's like Interleague Play in baseball, or the Champion's League in European soccer. A clash of the titans, as it were. Do you think Spader's Steff would have respected Bueller for his talents in manipulation, if for no other reason? If--sorry--WHEN Johnny Lawrence's dad takes over as CEO and relocates the family to Chicagoland, does Johnny replace softass Blaine in Steff's rolodex? Or does Johnny's insistence on wearing Cobra Kai gear to school alienate him from his natural allies? Please write more of this shit. You have a gift.
